Policeman | Husband | Cook | Computer Guy

Cpl. James Mott was all those things. Jim, computer forensics specialist with the Springfield Police Department, died Saturday, July 19th, 2003. He was 37.

A native of Shelbina, Jim had been with the department 13 years. Friends and fellow officers knew him as hard-working, dependable and likable.

Jim became the department's go-to guy for questions about computers. He also assisted retired Maj. Todd Whitson in obtaining accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies for the Springfield Department. Jim's attention to detail helped the department gain the accreditation, as he was responsible for updating and maintaining more than 400 files related to the process.

"We could not have achieved the accreditation without his assistance," Whitson said.

Jim also worked in resource management, where he was responsible for helping make background checks on job candidates and involved in the recruiting process.

But whether he was working on computers, cooking up a storm (another favorite pastime) or just joking around with friends, Jim was always a pleasure to be around.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elaine, his brother and stepmother.

He will be deeply missed.
